“There are forty lakhs (four million) drivers in India and shortage of nearly twenty five (two and a half million), I won’t let the job opportunities of one crore (ten million) citizens be snatched away” quoted the Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.
Union Minister, Gadkari on Tuesday said that he will not be standing along with the launch of driver-less cars in India as this could mean a job lose to almost one crore (ten million) people in India. “Several big personalities came to meet me and discussed about launching driver-less car into India. But I replied clearly with a big No, and added that till I am there, I shall not allow any driver less car in India. I was then asked if I oppose new technology to which I said No, not at all.”- Minister Gadkari.
The Union Minister of Road transport and Highways was attending an event organized by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), to distribute leather tool kits. “Social and economic equality will only come in action and not from speeches” he added.
Now, Kulhads (clay cups) will be used in four hundred railway stations giving employment to Kumhars (potter). We are working daily for the socially and economically backward sectors.
Minister Gadkari also said that “Cab aggregators like Ola and Uber are making money by using our driving skills. If cab aggregators think they can make more money by introducing technology like driver-less cars and render people unemployed, the government is not going to allow it,”. In a study held by KPMG, the top among the countries which are ready to support driver-less cars are Netherlands, Singapore and US. India ranks 20th in the list. Government support, great infrastructure, technology and innovation, and consumer acceptance have found to be the common factors of most countries accepting the new upcoming auto-drive technology.
