MVA (Motor Vehicle Act) says that all taxis should have a first aid box with sterilised finger dressing, body dressing, hand or foot dressing, two large an three small burn dressing, two 15gram packet of cotton, a bottle of tincture iodine, sal volatile, one empty bottle fitted with dropper for the eyes and one medicine glass.

Now, what’s extra with the Delhi cab drivers is a set of three condoms in their first aid kit. This all started from an Uber driver Dharmendran claiming to have been fined for not carrying a condom in his first aid kit. In future it turned out that he was fined for speeding, but the rumour never stooped but spread out that not carrying protection was a punishable issue.

Another driver who was asked about the same responded saying, he does carry the rubber in his kit but was never been caught or asked about it by any police officer. In response to the same topic officials said that “No driver has been asked to carry a condom with them or have been asked about condom during their fitness test at our vehicle checking centre. However, NGO workers reach out to drivers outside the centre to educate them, this might be a part of all that”.

While the cab drivers and unsure about why they are carrying around a condom with them, it turns out that they are a first aid hack. “In case a person starts to bleed or if someone has a fracture, the condom can be of help in stopping the bleeding or in tying around the wounded area until they reach a hospital or proper treatment spot. Other helping hacks of condom includes its capacity to store up to three litres of water and also reported to have helped different drivers in stopping leakage of burst car pressure pipe or in covering shoes when in rain.
