Communication is always key to knowing and eradicating any kind of issue that could cause problems. When it comes to World problems, health is one such field that needs proper communication between nations as well as the WHO to take relevant actions. Tanzania in one case recently didn’t feel obliged to inform the organization of not only a death but also two ongoing cases of possibly the Ebola virus.
Cases of Ebola revealed?
The first case is of a women who died on September 8th in Dar es Salaam, later confirmed to be Ebola positive. Later, two other patients were suspected to have the virus. One of them tested negative and the information on the other had not been dispatched. The Health Minister Ummy Mwalimu, has said that in order to inform WHO and do secondary tests, there are certain regulations to be followed. Firstly the local tests should be positive on the patient. Secondly there should be at least 25 positive cases of the viruses for it to be informed to the organization. As neither have actually occurred it’s mostly confirmed that it’s safe and there is no need to panic.
Precautions and effects
Anyone who could have been in contact with the victim are to be quarantined. Central Africa and especially East Africa are on high alert after the last time where the virus caused over 2000 deaths. US has advised citizens to take extreme precautions while travelling to Tanzania. The WHO has agreed to follow the guidelines to receiving more information on this front too.
As a side effect of this Ebola scandal the tourism around the region will be affected. Revenue will drop as travelling will be minimized due to the panic stirring situation.
