Sundar Pichai Step into the role as the CEO of Alphabet.

Sundar Pichai, the soft-spoken, Indian-born, takes the role of Chief executive of the parent company of Google, the Alphabet. Pichai will remain as the CEO of google in addition to the newly gained post. The new post comes as a the Co-founders of google  Larry Page and Sergey Brin are stepping away from their roles at the company they founded two decades ago in a California garage.

Alphabet includes Google as well as units focused on its “other bets” in areas including self-driving cars, life sciences and a variety of “moonshot” projects.

Sundar Pichai was born in a southern Indian City, Chennai and studies engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Kharagpur, before heading to United States. After leaving India, he earned a degree in Engineering and Materials Science at Stanford University and a Master’s in Business Administration at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Sundar, known for his Lanvin sneakers and easy-going style steps in the new role as antitrust enforcers in Washington, Brussels and elsewhere are stepping up their scrutiny of Google, which is the developer of the leading Android mobile operating system and also the internet’s dominant search engine.

Its employees had organised to protest recently, which some claims, was for lack of action on sexual harassment by executives, as well as Google’s dealings with the US military and border security authorities.

Pichai has a low-key life styles keeps him away from public lights. He is married to a fellow IIT student, Anjali Pichai, with whom he has two children.

Among the most notable are Hyderabad-born Satya Nadella of Microsoft, Rajeev Suri of Nokia, Shantanu Narayen of Adobe and, until her departure last year, Indra Nooyi at PepsiCo, he joins a long list of India-born CEOs of major global companies.
