Facebook to Hide Likes
Facebook is onto making new tests to hide the like counts in the News feeds posts. This move is being planned to prevent the destructive comparison made by the users and to protect their envy and self censorship mentality. Instagram has already started this test in many countries. In April, Instagram released its update with hidden likes in Canada and then extended it to countries like Brazil, Australia, Italy, Ireland and Japan in July on seeing the success in the first test.
Facebook has developed into a platform were people post almost every event in their life, but then as Facebook members started to notice people deleting posts or hesitating to publish them because of the less number of likes they are gaining, they have come to a decision for a new move which is the update which hides the likes count from the news feeds post. The person uploading the post/pic in Facebook will still be able to see the likes count, but to others only a few names of best friends or mutual friends who likes the post shall be visible. “ We don’t want the scenarios like “look how many likes they get, my life is lame in comparison” or “why should I care to share when I wont get much likes. People might think I’m unpopular” among their users.
Adding Test
Facebook shall gradually take steps to these test. With positive sign shown in Instagram’s test on the same, Facebook is now relived and confident about not getting a negative feedback. They are expecting a positive or neutral result in the test, yet they are planning backups for any negative impact on number or users or ad revenue. Facebook has not given out any other information about Instagram like hiding tests, its motives or the date scheduled for starting the test.
