Cricket – Dinesh Mongia announces retirement from all forms of cricket
Dinesh Mongia, the Indian Former all-rounder, on 17th September 2019, announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. Mongia was last seen on the field playing for Punjab on October, 2007, before the BCCI banning him for joining ICL (Indian Cricket League).

Mongia is known widely for being chosen over VVS Laxman in the Indian team for the ICC world cup of 2003, which was held in South Africa, in which team India had finished as runner up. He started his career as a cricketer playing in the under 19 team of Punjab in the year 1995 and due to the consistency in his performance in the first class cricket for over 6 years, Mongia was given a chance in the ODI call-up into the national team which went against Australia in 2001.
Mongia has played 57 ODI’s for India in which he has scored 1230 runs at a rate of 27.95. He has played 121 first-class matches and has scored 21 centuries in his name. The unbeaten score of 159 against Zimbabwe in the series decider match held in Guwahati, in 2002, is one among his great achievements. Mongia has played a T20 match for India but was never a part of any Test match.
The left-hand batsman lost his touch with cricket after being banned by the BCCI. Mongia remains a lone cricketer who was never granted amnesty and kept out of the official circuits.
Coaching assignments are being taken further on by Mongia and in the last season, PCA (Punjab Cricket Association) had made Mongia a state selector.
