In order to work forward for 30% electric vehicle as well as green mobility by 2030, the Indian Government has authorized certain amendments in electric vehicle charging guidelines and specifications. RK Singh, the Union Minister of State for Power and New and Renewable Energy (IC) and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship said that the new amendments will overrule previous one that came into being on December 12, 2018.

Revised guidelines are more consumer-friendly as they incorporate a number of suggestions received from various stakeholders, stated minister RK Singh. He also quoted that, “We have tried to address the concerns of EV owners in new guidelines.” Beneath these new guidelines, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), a statutory body under Ministry of Power has been proposed as the Central Nodal Agency for respective states, a provision for State Nodal Agency has been provided. The crucial task given to these agencies will be to install electric vehicles all around the country.

More about the Guideline

In the new guidelines, it is also suggested to install charging infrastructure throughout the country in order to deal with problems of electric vehicle owners. As far as the service chargers at PCS are concerned, charging of an Electric vehicle is a service. Then again in order to make sure that the incentives provided to public charging station owners to install charging stations around the country are transferred to the EV owners. Appropriate agency/commission shall fix the ceiling of service charges in such cases which is also added the guideline. Since there is an absence of a healthy EV charging framework, as well as the low domestic EV parts manufacturing, instead of concentrating on other fields the companies have to spend tremendous amount of money to import key EV components.

Tata power, which has 85 charging stations spread in 15 Indian cities, is outlining a plan in order to set up an extensive network of EV charging stations.
