Minister of information and broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar on 24th September tweeted “The legend Amitabh Bachchan who entertained and inspired for two generations has been selected unanimously for DadaSaheb Phalke award. The entire country and international community is happy. My heartiest Congratulations to him.”
Amitabh Bachchan, was born to a renowned Hindi poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan and social activist Teji Bachchan, in Allahabad, on 11th October 1942. “Saat Hindustani”, 1969 was his debut Bollywood movie. Amitabh then went on acting in movies like Anand, Sholay, Agneepath, Kabhie Kabhie, Piku and many more. Apart from his big screen presence, he is also famous in the small screen, for hosting the show “Kaun Banega Crorepati”.
His achievements include Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibushan received in the years 1984, 2001 and 2015 respectively, France’s highest civilian honour, the knight of legion of award in 2007, National awards in best actor category for Agneepath, Black, Paa and Piku, 15 film fare awards and 5 IIFA awards till date.
“He is not only a fantastic actor but has entertained generations and done some very meaningful work off late apart from bringing attention to causes and contributing to various charities. I am biased. He is my childhood hero and I am in films only because of him and Salim-Javed,” said Ritesh Shah, writer of the film “Pink”.

Nagarjuna tweeted, “Dear Amitji, Couldn’t be happier to hear news that you will be receiving the prestigious #DadaSahebPhalkeAward. You have inspired and entertained billions and continue to do so. We love you Sir and are so very proud of you.”
