The decision about lowering GST rates of E-vehicles will be made during the 36th meeting of GST council, chaired by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, which will be through video conference. The council meeting is also likely to decide the valuation of goods and services in wind turbine project and solar power generation system for levying GST.
The issue relating to GST concession of E- vehicles, electric chargers and hiring of E-vehicles was referred to an officers committee from a council of state finance ministers in its meeting last month.
The recommendations of officers committee is likely to be placed before the council on 25th July 2019.
Centre proposed to the council to reduce the GST rate from 12% to 5% to push the domestic manufacturing of E-vehicles. (GST for fuels like petrol, diesel and other vehicles is already at a high peak of 28%).
The council will also consider the solar project, tax structure, taxation on lotteries (currently the state organized lottery has 12% GST, while state authorized lottery attracts 28% GST).
